The Major Babbitt Room

The Major Babbitt Room (referred to by our regulars as the ‘bunny room’) is named for Major Jacob Babbitt JR, who occupied our home from 1832 to 1887.* He died of wounds received at the Battle of Fredericksburg in 1863. This cozy room is the only one that faces the garden. Its soft lavender and yellow walls are the perfect backdrop for the lilac and ivy fabrics.
The massive and heavily carved queen bed is the focal point of the room. The room also boasts an antique ice chest turned armoire/dresser, cheval mirror, dressing table/desk and comfortable reading chair. In addition to the full bath with shower/tub combo, hair dryer and terrycloth robes, and this room also has an additional in-room vanity with sink set into an antique desk.

*For those paying attention, no, Major Babbitt did not occupy the house after his death in 1863. His family lived there until 1897. You see, I have very good attention to detail...but just couldn't figure out another way of saying it. Actually, I could, but it was much more fun writing this postscript! Debra K
